Ron Ragel, Co- Director of Global Network , is of Sri Lankan origin, now living in Australia. Over the years, his countless world music productions, concerts, workshops, books and CDs have inspired many thousands of people, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to the peace process and the humanitarian movement.
He was born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he began playing stringed instruments at the age of six and began playing professionally after moving to Australia in the early seventies. Today, he has a rich history of over twenty-five years as a musician, composer and producer.
By the late nineties he was best known for his work with promoting world music in Australia. From 1999 to 2001 he conceived and produced the inaugural Australian World Music Awards that recognized the achievement of world music artists living in Australia. His record label, Global Grooves (now Medicine Music ) had become a prolific contributor in the ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) awards in the World music category. He has produced several albums and authored several articles and books on sonic mysticism (the therapeutic power of sound and music).
